Marches Poets are very pleased that our friends at Poetry in Presteigne have organised a new poetry event for poetry lovers in and near Presteigne. Following the sad demise of the Red Parrot event PiP have stepped in and organised a monthly event in the upstairs sitting room at the Radnorshire Arms, High Street, Presteigne. The monthly programme of readings will be on the second Monday of the month starting on Monday 11th April @ 7.30 pm. The guest poets for April’s session are Meg Cox, Tina Cole, John Gareth Owen and Marches Poet’s very own Frances Field. Marches Poets are delighted to announce we will be joining in the fun at the Knucklas summer festival by creating a poetry trail around the castle hill. The Knuckfest will take place on the weekend of 4th and 5th June 2016. As you climb the castle hill follow our poetry trail then sample the other activities on offer. Details at knucklascastle.org.uk
Following the successful launch of our fifth anthology, ‘The History Launderette’, Marches Poets rounded off 2015 by participating in the first Poetry in Presteigne poetry festival (poetryinpresteigne.org). Marches Poets performed as part of the opening event and also sponsored a workshop led by Susan Richardson. Both those events and the rest of the programme were a great success, we look forward to another PiP!
Having re-charged our batteries over Xmas Marches Poets are now looking forward to another year of poetry. We started the year by welcoming a new member, hello Barbara, and will shortly be off on our writing retreat. This is a weekend with nothing to do but write, listen to and think about poetry – with some eating an drinking thrown in. As part of the retreat we will decide our programme for the year, so far a plan for another workshop in the autumn and possibly a festival appearance in June. Watch this space!

Marches Poets are pleased to announce the publication of a new anthology to celebrate their fifth year as a group. This anthology includes poems from our newest member, Vanessa Pawsey. The anthology, entitled ‘The History Launderette’ will be available at the launch event on Sunday 20th September at the Assembly Rooms, Presteigne. Marches Poets invite you to attend a writing day ‘Where the Imagination Finds it’s Home’, led by poet and memoirist Roger Garfitt. The event is on Sunday 2 November 2014 at Hall Barn, Bleddfa Centre, LD7 1PA. In addition we are offering a performance of poetry and guitar music to follow the workshop. Roger will be joined by guitarist Gareth Rees-Roberts for ‘Border Songs and From The Ridge’.
